The Emergency Homeless Shelter

The shelter closed on June 30, 2009 due to a new direction for Crispus Attucks as outlined in our five-year Strategic Plan. A summary of this plan is posted on this website. 

Strengthening families program 10-14
SFP is a parent, youth, and families skills-building curriculum designed to prevent teen substance abuse and other behavioral problems, strengthen family skills, and build family strengths. The program is for middle school youth and their families, and is delivered using realistic videos, role-playing, discussions, learning games, and family projects.

Youth Intervention program

A school-based intervention program addressing behavior, attendance, and achievement for elementary school children at-risk of failure in school. Includes after-school programs, intensive case management, and structured playground activities.

Cultural Program
Crispus Attucks sponsors community-wide cultural events, including the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast, dinner theaters, Black History Month events, Christmas Bazaar, Kwanzaa Celebration, Juneteenth Observance, and Summer Art and Jazz Fest. The Center is  also home for the African American Veterans Project, and a site for the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival.

Open to all Lancaster families with children ages 10-14. Register now for upcoming sessions:

Classes meet on Tuesday nights for seven weeks at Crispus Attucks Community Center, 407 Howard Avenue. Dinner is included. Funding is provided by the Pennsylvania Commission Crime and Delinquency, so participation is offered at no cost to families.
